Merry Christmas, everybody! To my friends and readers who aren’t in Texas, let me let Robert Earl Keen show you how it’s done ’round these parts:
Actually, it’s not really like that in my family (well, maybe a little), but there’s still something that just feels right about this song. So I thought I’d share it with the marvelous folks who waste precious time reading this blog.
Merry Christmas one and all, and happy winter solstice celebration of a long a varied history to anyone who isn’t of the Christmas-celebrating persuasion. As another beloved Texas icon, the great Kinky Friedman, puts it, “May the God of your choice bless you.”
Hey, that’s exactly how our family Christmas party went. Except we had the bloody Mary’s first. Then the margaritas.
Right on. Ours was close, except that we substituted whiskey sours for all the other booze 🙂 And now that that is all over, it’s time to get ready for the New Year’s booze-a-thon!
You get all the cool people in Texas. Robert Earl. Kinky Friedman. Joe Bob Briggs. Joe R Lansdale. What do we get in Arizona? Some whacked-out politicians, is all.
We are, indeed, blessed with more than our fair share of characters, it’s true. And hey, Arizona can claim to be the birthplace of the chick who wrote the sparkly vampires books, so that’s something, right? 🙂
Rub it in.
I do what I can. And hey, we’ve both got less than desirable governors (as far as I’m concerned, anyway).
